Using Adjustment Layers Tutorial

Adjustment Layer Tutorial – PDF

Process: I am introducing Adjustment Layers which are great ways to alter your photos and fix some things to help your images. Adjustment Layers are something that I use all the time to brighten up images, mess with different effects and even add photo filters for extra creativity. My inspiration comes from just messing around with adjustments and testing out different things while playing in Photoshop. The Image that I used was from the Motion Section with Laser/Light Painting.

With this one, I went out and took pictures with my ideas in mind. The bird was a bit of luck and some chasing around but I think it was worth it. With all of them, I used adjustment layers to pull out the image in different ways. With Deep 002, I had a little more fun with a desat, sepia filter, and a little bit of a vignette as well as some tilting done in Photoshop.

Process: With this, I set up a photo shoot. I had been playing with different ideas on what to do for a while now. I set it up, took to photos then took them into Photoshop. I used several basic adjustment layers (brightness and contrast, and such). I used a special hue adjustment with a black/white gradient on my second blur to play with the colors a little more.

Photodesign Introductory Post

Welcome to the Photodesign Section of my blog.

To start off, my name is Jordan Pope. I am first and foremost an Illustrator. I enjoy all types of visual media, however. I work with Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Web Programming and Design, general Computer Programming, and working it all together into what is me. When it comes to photography and editing, I am not a leader in the photography end. This is my first real time using a DSLR camera, but I have worked with designing photographs. I use Photoshop quite a bit, more for digital painting, but I know my way around photo editing.

Of my past photos, they consist of Comm130 and Graphic Design project work from last semester, so they are fairly recent. They were taken with a standard digital camera at 14 mega pixel sizing. Lighting is something that I really enjoy playing with as well as having fun with my own setups (see the 2nd Image). All were edited in some ways consisting primarily of curves/levels, contrast, saturation/brightness/vibrancy, and photo filter adjustment layers in Photoshop. Some cropping may have been used as well, but I tend to do my crop selection directly with the camera.   Past05 Past04 Past03 Past02 Past01
